How a comic book can take you to Portugal… – story of Zara Mitrović

Zara is one of the winners of comics competition from Slovenia. She is a third-year student at
Biotehniški center Naklo. Her comic book about gender equality Don’t judge book by its cover earned
her a trip to summer camp.

For one week she was part of an international group of 19 peers from Czech Republic, Portugal,
Poland and Slovenia.

Upon return to Slovenia, she was very eager to share her experience with her fellow students, her
mentor and teacher Marjeta throughout the competition.
“On the summer camp I improved my English language skills whilst discussing important global
issues. With my peers from different European countries, we explored and searched for solutions on
different global issues such as migration, climate change as well as inequalities. The topic I am most
interested in. I don’t travel very often so this was also a unique opportunity for me to get to know
another European country, its nature in Sesimbra National Park, culture through interesting people,
its capital as well as try some new sports. If you have a chance to participate in something similar, I
would wholeheartedly recommend it. You have fun, meet interesting people and have a unique
learning experience.”
