Summer Camp Inequalities Workshop: Who wants to sit on the inequality chair?

During the Talking Bubbles Summer Camp that took place in Sesimbra, Portugal, the young participants had the opportunity to carry out various activities (outings, radical activities, workshops). In addition to the prize, this event aimed to bring added value to the young winners of their countries‘ comic competitions, mainly in terms of improving their storytelling skills, at the level of language proficiency and crossing cultures, but also in how they can learn more about the various global challenges, many of them addressed in the works submitted to the competition.

One of the awareness-raising activities held was the workshop on Inequalities. Adapted from „Ten Chairs of Inequality: A Classroom Simulation on the Distribution of Wealth“ developed by United for a Fair Economy, the workshop brought into focus the multidimensionality and complexity of Inequalities in the world and focused on the issue of unequal distribution of wealth worldwide.

With various dynamics, from icebreaker to conclusions, in a 45-minute workshop, it was possible to demonstrate the unequal distribution of wealth among the already 8 billion inhabitants of the planet and thus reflect on rights, privileges and what it means to have equal opportunities. The group of teenagers had the opportunity to relate these issues to all the SDGs, think about how several global challenges are related to these inequalities of distribution and how the SDGs can be a way for the gap not to be so big.

This workshop is part of the Talking Bubbles E-learning Course and you can find it in Module 3 „Inequalities“, available on the website: https://e-learning.talking-bubbles.eu/
